Hello all, the target has been removed from this petition.  Because getting 50k, 75k, 100k signatures does not magically close the zoo.  We just have to keep going until we build the critical mass to close the place, until the Indonesian government listens to us.  Maybe this means millions of signatures, so let’s do it!

Please also sign the Indonesian petition.  I believe this is much more powerful than a foreign petition.  So please sign this:  http://www.change.org/petitions/menhut-segera-bertindak-selamatkan-satwa-kebun-binatang-surabaya

This place needs to be shut down, it is truly shameful.

I was so glad this inspirational woman, Conchita Wurst, won the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. I was rooting for her the whole way through but was concerned that she may not win purely due to transphobic attitudes that some people may have towards her. It was just so refreshing for a drag queen to enter the competition, let alone win it. Even besides the fact that she was truly unique, she also has a very powerful voice and the song was beautiful so she was an all round well deserved winner!

In January 2006, Molly leapt a 5-foot-5-inch slaughterhouse gate at Mickey’s Packing Plant in Great Falls, raced through town with police and animal control on her heels, ran in front of a train, swam across the Missouri River and took three tranquilizer darts before finally being recaptured six hours later. She was spared from slaughter and dubbed the Unsinkable Molly B. “Animals do not ‘give’ their life to us, as the sugar-coated lie would have it. They struggle and fight to the last breath.”

"But animals don’t feel pain!"
"They are so stupid that they can’t understand what’s happening"
"Bleh ble ble barf"

I just read about another cow the other day, named Emily, who did the same thing. She escaped the slaughterhouse and evaded capture for 40 days as local residents helped to keep her hidden and purposefully misled the police as to where she was. She was eventually caught but given to a sanctuary called The Peace Abbey where she lived out the rest of her life. There is a statue there dedicated to her.

It’s incredibly sad that so many people easily empathize with these few cows who escaped but don’t give a shit about any of the other billions of cows killed worldwide who weren’t lucky enough to find a way out.
